Family Background
I grew up in a Christian home. My father works at CME hospital in Bunia. My mother mentors young women and teaches them to sew. I have six biological siblings and three siblings that my parents have taken in and cared for as their own.
What challenges do you face as you study?
The challenge I face is the insecurity of the area around our university. We have been in the red zone twice this year, which means we are in immediate danger. We have heard gun fire close and had to flee to safety. We are located at the edge of town so we are more susceptible to rebels who come into town. It is scary at night because you go to sleep but do not know if rebels will attack and you won’t have time to run. People have been killed by sword and gun. We pray for God to protect us. Things may be more dangerous because of the upcoming election.
How will you invest in Nyankunde while in school?
I returned to Nyankunde on my summer vacation to give some talks on how Christianity came to Africa and Nyankunde. I also gave talks on enduring persecution and the Israelites. I plan to return during Christmas break to serve in the church and with the youth ministry as well.
How will your education allow you to help the people of Nyankunde?
One day I would love to be able to teach and train pastors so that they can better serve their churches.
